Custom paper lamp shade

Make this custom lamp shade to add a bit of detail to your room!
The hard bit is to work out the layout of the truncated cone on paper if you have a specific lamp shade you are ripping apart. To get sizes for the layout, use one of the online truncated cone calculators and punch in the diameters of the cone at the top and the bottom, and also the height of the cone (make sure to measure the actual height and not the length of the surface.)

Use the diameters from the calculator to draw 2 circles on your piece of paper and mark the angle of the arc to keep. Allow slight overlap to use for sticking the 2 ends together.

I’ve done my layout on the computer as its quicker and is easy to print, but you can create one using a few basic drawing tools.

You can draw the custom design you want on the layout, but try to keep the shapes simple and stencil-like to avoid problems cutting them out.

Once you have your layout, use a stanley knife or a scalpel to cut around the outlines. Be careful with the blade.

Once all cut out, glue the ends together and put under press until dry.

Attach the cone to the lamp shade of your choice and enjoy.
